Whatever Wednesday

Each Wednesday we post links from the previous week that touch on special needs adoption. Our hope is that these small snapshots provide you with a glimpse of life after adopting through China’s waiting child program… both the long-term blessings and the challenges that come with parenting a child with special needs. We also hope to raise awareness about a variety of special needs.

Hi – thanks for the link to my blog (Torrefaction). Just to clarify – my son is of Chinese parentage, and has special needs, but was not born in China–we adopted him as a newborn here in the US (we were LID in China, also, but decided to try domestic because of the long wait, and ended up with a Chinese-American baby. Life is funny!). So a lot of the issues I describe with his allergies and so on are much more common in infants than in toddlers, although tods coming from China to here can definitely develop sensitivities because of changing to different foods & additives and stuff. Anyway his "official" special needs are that he's missing his left forearm and hand, and he has an ASD (small heart defect). The allergies have been much more of a pain than those things though! 🙂 I do blog a fair amount about his limb difference, though, so if anyone's interested in that they'll probably find something useful in my archives. -Mary
