Find My Family: Elijah

update: my family has found me!

Imagine a gorgeous 4-year-old boy who loves to play games with others, likes to play jokes on his caregivers and who has never had an illness other than a cold. Now imagine that same sweet boy doing all of that with no arms!

Elijah

Elijah was abandoned at birth and is missing both of his arms and hands. He also has a history of congenital heart disease. His caregivers tell us that he eats and sleeps well and enjoys attention from those around him. Children like this angel, who were born with missing limbs, often learn to compensate very early for the missing parts of their body. With the love and support of a family, they grow up living full and active lives. Families open to this condition will be rewarded with a child who will bring both challenges and amazing miracles to enrich their lives as he grows up in their loving embrace.

A family met Elijah last year and had this to say: “One year ago we adopted our new daughter. I visited her orphanage just two days after Gotcha Day. As we entered her former room in the orphanage, I saw approximately 40 cribs, each with a little one bundled up in many layers of clothes. Other than the cribs, the room was very sparse, with just two caregivers. I had brought toys and lollipops for the children, and as the staff pointed out which children could manage a lollipop, I saw a little guy sitting quietly in his crib in the corner of the room. When I approached to give him a lollipop, he gave me a shy glance, then quickly raised his foot to smooth down the front of his shirt. He had no arms. He then put his foot out to take the lollipop, and in a swift motion, placed it immediately in his mouth! What a darling! He most likely spends a lot of time in his crib, but he seemed very alert and aware! He had a sweet little spark in his eyes, I wanted to scoop him up in my arms! A precious little guy, who would do so well in a loving family!”

Elijah is designated to Dillon International through an orphanage partnership, contact them for more information.

I’d like to add that YouTube user TishaUnArmed has a great channel full of videos of how she does everyday things like getting dressed, making a sandwich, writing, and doing her hair and makeup without having arms or hands. I don’t have personal experience with this special need, but her videos are fun to watch, and it makes me think the sky is the limit for Elijah if he had a family 🙂
