Meet Pendalyn who was born in November of 2002. She was found in a railway station just a few days after birth and taken to a local Social Welfare Institute (SWI). At about six months of age, her caregivers noticed that she didn’t respond to sounds as readily as she should have. She was taken to a clinic and diagnosed with congenital deafness, a hearing test confirms this in her file.
Pendalyn was enrolled in a School for the Deaf in China though and seems to be doing very well. It is not known why it took quite so long for her file to be prepared for adoption, but it was in August of 2014. Pendalyn will turn 13 years old next month. At the age of 14 she will no longer be eligible for adoption.
Pendalyn was interviewed, in sign, about her willingness to be adopted. Her file contains an absolutely heartbreaking interview about not only her want to be adopted, but also how much she misses her best friend who was recently adopted internationally.
Pendalyn is deaf, but does have language. She is described as being completely independent in her self cares and meeting all her gross and fine motor milestones. Obviously, she doesn’t speak, but she can communicate through sign that she has learned from attending deaf school.
Pendalyn deserves an amazing family and has agreed to international adoption. She is currently designated to Lifeline Children’s Services, although her file may be released for a family with a different agency.
