Finding Your Tribe

Community is important. And for someone walking the often bumpy and occasionally tumultuous road of adoption, it’s essential. Our goal at No Hands But Ours has always been to encourage a sense of community for our adoptive families online; we also want to do all we can to encourage community in person. Face to face.

To do that, we asked for your help in submitting information on your local adoptive support groups so we could create a resource for all adoptive families to be able to access. And y’all showed up. We received over 100 submissions and have now organized them onto one easy-to-use map.

Yay!

Each group is represented by a star on the map – you can find a group by either clicking on a star for more information, or searching via the search box in the top right corner. Either way, you should be able to easily find out if there is a group in your area.

We’ve put this resource in an easily-to-find spot for you to find later or to share with others. It’s under the Resources tab at the top – click Connect Locally and you’re there.

Also on the Connect Locally page, below the interactive map, you’ll find a form to complete to have your group’s info added if your group is not already represented.

We at NBHO are so hopeful that this will be a tool for adoptive parents all over the United States to find each other and connect locally. Because, mamas and babas, we need each other.

P.S. We are planning to open the map to other countries as well – if you belong to a group outside the US and would like to be included, leave a comment and we will contact you when we’re ready to add international groups!

I’m surprised to see that there are no groups in Chicago and Chicago suburbs. My church has a ministry for adoptive families.
