Waiting Child: Madeline

July 16, 2018 Children Who Wait 0 Comments

Madeline, born December 2007, is described as optimistic and sensible!

She gets along well with the other children around her and enjoys playing aeroplane chess. One of her favorite activities is playing with Legos; she builds all kinds of cars and people out of them! Often when she is with her group of kids, she will act like the adult, but she is very willing to be helpful to her caregivers and teachers, doing tasks like watering the plants.

Madeline is diagnosed with thalassemia and receives regular liver function testing and medication for symptom management, as well as a blood transfusion per month. Around her ninth birthday, she could run and jump easily, and did morning exercises to music. She took care of her needs in daily life, washing her face, brushing her teeth and making the bed. When meeting strangers she was a little shy at first, but quickly warms up. She communicated well, smiling and speaking clearly, and could answer questions. She was attending school at the orphanage, and had learned to write her name well, recite poetry, perform addition and subtraction, and sing the 26-letter alphabet song in English. Madeline is waiting for a family to share her life with!

Madeline’s file is now with WACAP. There is a $4,000 grant available for qualified families. In addition, the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation offers a $1,000 grant for adoptions of children with significant forms of thalassemiaFor more information, please email WACAP.
