Waiting for You: Paige

February 10, 2018 Children Who Wait 0 Comments

Paige is a bright and expressive 11-year-old girl who longs for a family of her own. She is listed with Holt International.

Holt vice president Jian Chen has made many visits to the Red Thread Group Home in China. But each visit breaks her heart a little — especially because of one beautiful girl who has a desperate hope. Paige longs for a family.

“I don’t know how to face her each time I visit,” Jian writes of her encounters with Paige. “She always asks when she can have a home of her own.”

Paige is an engaging 11-year-old girl with delicate features and a beautiful smile. “My impression of Paige is that she is a bright, bouncy, expressive and confident 11-year-old girl,” says Beth Smith, Holt’s China program director, who met Paige at the group home in October 2017. “She wants a family and knows what it’s like to have one.”

Paige lived with loving birth parents until after their deaths in 2012. Both of her birth parents had HIV, and Paige has also tested positive. Shortly afterward, she came into care at the Red Thread Group Home. But however caring the group home might be, Paige knows that it is nothing like belonging to a family of her own.

Paige is a bright girl, and she knew exactly why Beth was visiting the group home — to gather information about the children in order to find families for them. Paige took the opportunity to make her wishes known. This girl is hoping for a family with siblings of all ages!

Paige’s HIV is well-controlled with medication. She has normal physical development, and she loves to dance and roller skate. She is very bright and earns good grades in school. Paige is a lovely girl, but to protect her privacy, we don’t show her face here. Please contact Holt to see photos!

One by one, Paige has watched most of her friends from the group home leave with their adoptive families, becoming sons and daughters, sisters and brothers. She is waiting for her turn to be the chosen one, to finally be a beloved daughter on her way home with her family instead of the one left behind.

“She is really, really longing for a home,” says Jian of this special girl who has captured her heart.

Could you or someone you know be the right family for Paige?
