Urgent Waiting Child: Milton

July 14, 2018 Children Who Wait 3 Comments

Milton, a 3-year-old beautiful boy with a December 2014 birthday, loves playing with colorful toy cars and will drive them all over the tables and walls! He plays well independently and is able to entertain himself for a long time playing on the wooden horse or the swings. Sometimes after class his teacher takes him downstairs to play on the playground; he loves being on the go and will run around happily to climb and explore.

Milton is diagnosed with severe beta thalassemia and receives blood transfusions almost once a month, however, caregivers feel his health is getting worse. When he sees the nurse coming to take test his blood, he will stick his hand out and won’t cry. Oh sweet boy.

An ultrasound when he was 15 months old showed a congenital heart defect (PFO), but a follow up ultrasound at two years showed no abnormalities. In July 2017, he was able to walk, run and go up and down stairs. He could say a few simple words, and point to his eyes, ears, nose and mouth when asked. His teachers felt he was smart and learned quickly, but it was hard for him to sit quietly, so they often let him play while studying. Now at 3 years old, Milton speaks in two word sentences, and points to communicate as well. He drinks from a cup and imitates others to put on his shoes, but needs help using a spoon, so he is usually fed by caregivers.

Milton’s development is average compared to other kids at the orphanage, though he speaks less and is quieter. He is friendly with other kids and affectionate with his caregivers; if they leave he is upset, but comforted with snacks. This energetic little guy needs a family to help him get healthy and love him forever!

Milton’s file is currently with WACAP. He has a $2,000 grant available for qualified families given by WACAP. In addition, the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation offers a $1,000 grant for adoptions of children with significant forms of thalassemia, which Milton has. For more information, please email WACAP.

What a beautiful little boy, with a sad look in his eyes. That little pouty mouth is just precious. I hope his family will find him today. He is in my prayers. ❤️

I have a question about this sweet child’s condition… if the child’s adoptive parent shared a blood type can they be the regular donator?
