Find My Family: Cora

August 2, 2018 Children Who Wait 0 Comments

Cora is a beautiful little girl, born in March of 2016, who loves to be held and cuddled. She always smiles and babbles at her caregiver while she is holding her. Cora is happiest when she is sitting in the rocking chair or standing in her walker outside.

Her caregivers say she is shy and compliant. Cora enjoys colorful toys and listening to music, being read stories, and exploring new things. Cora is diagnosed with a congenital heart defect (ASD) and has weak muscular tension in her legs as well as possible facial paralysis. A brain MRI scan from October of 2016 listed small patchy malacia at the left parietal lobe. Cora is also a Hepatitis B carrier.

Upon admission into the orphanage, the muscular tension in Cora’s right hand was weak and she couldn’t grasp toys. After one month in the orphanage, she became active, would smile at people, and would try to talk by making sounds such as ‘yiyi yaya’ while lying on the mat. Her facial paralysis appeared to have improved by 9 months and she began grasping toys and chewing on them.

She could track the caregiver visually when she picked up toys and reacted when looking at herself in the mirror. She also turned when her name was called. Her gross motor skills improved, though she was still behind peers. As of August of 2017, Cora was able to sit alone for a while, but still wasn’t crawling or standing. However, she was able to slide around while sitting in a walker. She could pass a scrap of paper from one hand to the other and hold her bottle to drink. When she’s happy, she will dance with her hands and feet and giggle loudly.

Cora is listed with Madison Adoption Associates and we hope her forever family sees her soon!
