Meet Theo!

August 22, 2018 Children Who Wait 0 Comments

Theo is an adorable baby boy, born in August of 2015, who has the most kissable cheeks! He has been under the care of a Show Hope wing in his orphanage. He is close with his caretakers and gets along well with others. He can play with the other children. Theo is sensitive to sound and will chase the source of the sound.

Theo is an extroverted little boy with a ready smile! He likes to listen to music and will sometimes clap his hands and kick his legs, as if he is dancing along to the music. He looks at new people with curiously to see what the person is doing, but doesn’t feel nervous or scared around them.

When his file was prepared in October of 2017, he was unable to speak, but was imitating sounds and trying to say words. Theo’s motor function of the upper body is said to be normal. He has flexible fingers, can grasp objects, and is able to raise his head while lying on his stomach. He can turn over, but as of October 2017, was unable to sit or crawl.

Theo can visually follow objects and locate the sound source when his name is called. Theo’s caretakers say that he is a very good child and they all like him a lot!

Theo was diagnosed with brain damage (this is a very common diagnosis in this orphanage and province), but he has had a CT that came back normal. It was noted that Theo had bronchitis at one point and that he also has a PFO (patent foramen ovale); atrial left-right shunt via an ECHO of his heart.

He has some birthmarks on various places on his body and we have close-up pictures of all of them. He lost a patch of hair on his head from when he would move on the floor mats head-first, which we also have a close-up picture of.

A family is definitely missing out on a lot of snuggles and kisses from this cute fella! Be sure to check out the update and video from earlier this year!

Recently his health has been good; he has not been sick. He is liable to have trouble breathing; when this happens he will take anti-inflammatory drugs or a nebulizer.

Currently he does not have symptoms of CHD such as blue lips, often being out of breath, or frequent respiratory infections. At the moment his heart does not affect his daily life.

When he gasps you can hear uneven breathing sounds.

There are no plans for surgery.

He likes to roll on the ground. He needs an adult to look after him in his life.

He can crawl, raise his head up, and sit only for a little bit.

Compared to other children the same age he is relatively behind in terms of development, language, and behavior.

He doesn’t babble much and isn’t trying to say any words.

He prefers to roll around and play by himself with toys.

There is a $500 agency grant for Theo’s adoption with Madison Adoption Associates. Other grants may be available based on the adoptive family’s circumstances. Agency grants are awarded as agency fee reductions. MAA also partners with the Brittany’s Hope Foundation for matching grants, which are given out twice a year January and July) and to families that are officially matched with a child.

Theo needs a family with an approved home study to be able to move forward with adopting him. If you have an approved home study or a home study in process and are interested in adopting Theo, please fill out a free PAP Waiting Child Review Form, which can be found here.
