The First Year at Home

At No Hands But Ours, we know that the first year at home with your new little one is sure to be filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. It’s also undoubtedly filled with many questions, especially about how to best parent your new child while also managing their special needs.

You want to ensure your child feels nurtured and loved, provided for and safe. But how do you make sure you communicate these things in the way that your child understands? Each child is unique and has varying needs dependent on multiple factors: their age at placement, their background, their specific special need, their personality, etc. You will also need to consider how Chinese culture and the particular environment in their orphanage impact your interactions.

Our goal at No Hands But Ours is to inform, encourage and equip you with a wide variety of resources to help you navigate that unforgettable first year home with your newly adopted child. And to do it in a way that will help you lay a healthy relational foundation for many years to come.
