Waiting Child: Angelina

January 30, 2018 Children Who Wait 0 Comments

Just look at Angelina’s bright and beautiful eyes! Angelina was born in June 2011 and is now 6 years old. She needs a special family to help her reach her greatest potential!

Angelina was found when she was between 2-3 months old. After an unsuccessful search to find her parents, she was placed with a foster family. She was transferred to the orphanage in March 2016 at the age of 5 years.

When Angelina first entered the orphanage, she was unable to speak, walk, feed herself, or hold objects in her hand. After rehabilitation training, she made improvements in her motor skills. In August 2016, WACAP staff visited her and reported that she has a delightful smile and laugh. She enjoyed watching dancing videos and cartoons. Her caregivers had her sitting in a special chair with wheels and a tray in front of it while they were feeding her. She was not able to feed herself but she could eat soft food. WACAP staff observed that Angelina played with toys behind her but had difficulty if the toy was in front of her. She wasn’t able to hold objects easily. Her caregivers felt like she knew what was going on around her and she enjoyed watching the activity going on nearby. In October 2016, she could sit with support and grasp objects with her hands. She enjoyed playing with toys, singing, and dancing. She always danced when she watched a dance program. She could say simple words, such as “mom,” “dad,” “aunt,” “grandmother,” and “good morning” though her speech was unclear. She has also learned to communicate by blinking her eyes. If her caregivers ask her a question, she will blink her eyes once, meaning “yes,” or three times, meaning “no.” Her favorite toys are bright toys that make sounds.

Angelina has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs. In September 2016, she underwent several surgeries to attempt to improve her range of motion. Her caregivers reported they were planning to send her for more physical therapy soon.

Angelina is a beautiful little girl that needs a family to bring her home and shower her with the love and care she deserves! Could you be the family she is waiting for?! WACAP would love to request updated information for an interested family to check on Angelina’s recent progress.

Angelina’s file is currently on the Shared List. However, there is a $4,000 grant for qualified families who choose WACAP as their placing agency. Email WACAP for more information.
